Welcome to Kessingland Sea Sailing Club!

We Exist to Provide Sea Sailing for Our Members

Ploes in Turkey

The club owns two sea-going sailing yachts - a Contessa 32 in Lowestoft and a Bavaria 40 currently based in Turkey (shown above). Members can use these boats and make a contribution to Club funds.

Kessingland Sea Sailing Club was originally a dinghy racing club based on the beach at Kessingland near Lowestoft on the East Anglian coast of the UK. The clubhouse was sold and the proceeds ploughed back into the purchase of a thoroughbred ocean racer. This is 'Explorer' a well-found Contessa 32. Subsequently the club's activities were extended by the purchase of a sailing yacht based in the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean boat is currently 'Ploes', a Bavaria 40 kept at Fethiye in Turkey. More detailed history is here.

Accreditation

The Boat Committee has drawn up a list of members considered to be sufficiently experienced and responsible to skipper either Explorer or Ploes. The Club proposes to run a number of cruises for those members in need of further experience before being allowed to skipper either of the Club yachts. Depending on the duration of the cruise, an experienced skipper, and if considered necessary a mate, will be in charge of the Club yacht.

Prospective skippers will be vetted during these cruises and will need to be accredited before being able to skipper the club yachts.
